Burnt Out
Horses symbolise strength and utility, companions of labour and progress while women are often reduced to pawns of social and economic exchange, their beauty used to secure resources and expand territory. Both endure lives of service and control but embody a profound duality, powerful yet vulnerable.
Clay mirrors these qualities of fragility, resilience and endurance while its plastic qualities may be exposed to diverse firing techniques.
I create sculptures highlighting these tensions.
During firing, Burnt Out, a White Shino glazed buff clay sculpture was reduced to a stone-like form, standing strong in the force of the flame, to symbolise resilience and endurance.
All work will be on view at the Due Rietz Art Prize supported by Gympie Council
until 21 November. During this time the Peoples Choice Award will be open for public voting from 11 October - 14 November.
